ORDERING INFORMATION

Please order books and software by phone, fax, or mail (the mailing address is on the home page). Consult our discount and payment policies. If you prefer to order on-line through the Internet, find the title that you are interested in and then visit Amazon.Com. Amazon's on-line catalog does not include the detailed descriptions that ours does, so it is easier to select a book here.

INDIVIDUALS must prepay orders in US dollars with check, money order, international money order or credit card (we accept Visa, MasterCard, and their European equivalents). Give card number and expiration date of the card, billing address for the card, print your name as it appears on the card, and sign the order. We cannot ship without the expiration date and your signature. There is a flat $3.00 per order (not per book) shipping charge on all prepaid orders, regardless of the number of books in the order. Be sure to use your zip code in the USA; we must have it to ship the books. We prefer that you use your school address if possible. Ohio residents must add sales tax.

LIBRARIES, BOOKSTORES, DEPARTMENTS and other institutions can be billed if we receive an official order (on order form, letterhead, etc.); shipping charges, including registration charges for large orders shipped outside the USA, are added to the net price after discount. Terms: net 30 days after receipt of the books. Accounts not paying on time will be placed on pro forma billing.

ORDERING THROUGH BOOKSTORES (for individuals as well as libraries): if a bookstore claims that they can't get our books, try another bookstore or order directly from us (and get the discount). For various reasons, one of which is failure to pay on time in the past, we do not extend credit to certain bookstores, and they must pay before we ship the books. Some of these stores never do send in the money, apparently telling customers that the book is not available. In another case a chain told a customer that we don't accept single-copy orders -- that is not true. We are perfectly willing to accept orders for single copies. If you can't get our books through your bookseller, try another; if you live outside the USA, write us for the name of a bookstore in your country that does sell our books.

FOREIGN CUSTOMERS PLEASE NOTE: payment must be for the full amount of the invoice; we will not pay bank charges. You may pay by credit card (see above under Individuals), a check drawn on a US bank account, or an International Postal Money Order in US dollars. If a check is not drawn on a US bank account, but merely referred to a US bank, that bank may (but does not always) charge for collection. These collection fees vary. Since you must pay any collection charges, it is in your interest to pay by one of the recommended methods. Checks on US accounts have a set of computer numbers ("routing numbers") at the bottom of the check; checks merely referred to a US bank for collection do not have these numbers. If checks are submitted for collection, we do not ship the books until full payment has been received.

FOREIGN BOOKSTORES which stock many of our titles on a regular basis include the following, and we recommend them:

Prices at these stores may differ from Slavica's list prices and are set by the bookstore. They may include VAT and other taxes.

EXAMINATION AND DESK COPIES: Examination and sample copies are "free" only to the persons who get them. They cost money to produce and mail, just like any other copies, and other purchasers must make up the cost. We don't believe this is fair. We understand that teachers like to see textbooks to look them over (Slavica is run by a college professor), but so many people have abused the "examination copy" system in the past that we simply can't afford it any longer. Sending conditional bills is not the answer, since many people don't pay, and trying to collect costs a lot of money.

If you want to see a book, you can: 1) order it for your school library -- they should probably have it in any case; 2) order it for your departmental library; 3) order a copy yourself. If you decide to adopt the book, let us know when your bookstore orders and keeps 10 or more copies, and quote our invoice number (for your individual order), which comes with the book. We'll send you a credit memo for the price of the book; this credit memo can be used against the purchase of any book sold by Slavica. We regret that because of the new sales tax rules in some states, we cannot accept returns. We will supply desk copies when a book is adopted and your bookstore orders and keeps 10 or more copies.

FACULTY: please do us, yourself, and your students a favor: send a marked copy of this catalog to your library's acquisitions department. Many libraries won't order except at the express request of faculty. Your library can get the 20% or 10% discount by ordering directly from us.

ALL SLAVICA BOOKS listed in this catalog (except Teacher's Manuals) have a sewn binding, which makes the books last longer and allows them to lie flat when opened. Most of our scholarly books (including all since 1985) and many of our textbooks are printed on acid-free paper; the remainder are on high-quality long-life paper. Bindings are soft cover except where cloth is specified, and the trim size is 6 by 9 inches unless noted otherwise. These specifications may not apply to books from other publishers.
